Competitive providers are non-incumbent companies offering broadband, fiber optic transport, enterprise voice, wireless, cloud, and managed services. They introduce market choices, drive down prices, and accelerate technology adoption across America.

Why does permitting matter to communications networks?

Building a new communications network can require approvals and access from federal, state and local governments, as well as access to poles, rights-of-way and other infrastructure. Streamlined and predictable permitting can help companies deploy networks faster and reduce unnecessary costs.

What is interconnection and why is the IP Transition important?

Interconnection is the process that allows separate communications networks to connect and exchange traffic. The IP transition is the industry's shift from older, circuit-based telecommunications technology, but the transition should not eliminate competitive safeguards before competitive providers have reliable alternatives.

Why does INCOMPAS advocate on federal, state and local policy?

Communications networks cross jurisdictional boundaries, but deployment and operating requirements can exist at every level of government. A provider may face federal regulations, state requirements, local permitting, utility policies and infrastructure-access rules on a single deployment. INCOMPAS advocates across these levels because barriers at any point can affect the ability of competitive providers to build and compete.
