WASHINGTON, D.C. – July 19, 2022 – INCOMPAS, the internet and competitive networks association, released a new fact sheet detailing the reasons policy makers need to take immediate action to save the Universal Service Fund (USF) program that helps connect millions of low-income families and rural communities across America.
The new fact sheet builds upon the work in last year’s USForward report, and details why the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), that has the Future of USF Report pending on circulation since last Friday, has the power, authority and responsibility to modernize the USF program now.
In addition, Angie Kronenberg, chief advocate and general counsel of INCOMPAS, released the following statement:
“The facts are clear when it comes to USF, delay is not an option. The FCC has the power and authority to save USF now and reassure millions of low-income families, rural communities, schools, libraries, and rural healthcare providers that their access to lifesaving voice and broadband internet services will not be put at risk.
“Evolving USF so that its revenue base of support includes broadband internet access services is an immediate, common-sense solution that provides a sustainable long-term solution for the program. Over 340 organizations have united in support of this reform proposal.
“USF is a program that helps real families with real economic problems, and we must not delay action that ensures their ability to access to the internet via a sustainable USF remains intact.”
