WASHINGTON, D.C. – April 22, 2025 – Yesterday, the trial began for U.S. v. Google, a case in which the Department of Justice (DOJ) has proposed remedies that threaten to impede innovation, weaken competition and hurt consumers.
Chip Pickering, CEO of INCOMPAS, the internet and competitive networks association, released the following statement expressing concerns about the impact of the DOJ’s proposed remedies:
“The remedies proposed by the Department of Justice would severely undermine competition and innovation in our industry. These regulatory interventions threaten to destabilize the competitive landscape we have worked diligently to foster, creating an environment where innovation is penalized, not rewarded.
Consumers will ultimately bear the cost of this regulatory overreach through higher prices and reduced service quality. The current ecosystem, which has enabled unprecedented technological advancement, stands to be compromised by these regulatory interventions. INCOMPAS remains committed to advocating for policies that protect market competition and consumer interests, rather than arbitrary market restructuring that hinders progress and economic growth.”
