WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 6, 2023 – INCOMPAS, the internet and competitive networks association, submitted comments in response to the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Sixth Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking in WC Docket No. 17-97 which focused on the use of third-party solutions to authenticate caller ID information and the impact these arrangements have on the STIR/SHAKEN ecosystem:
“We would like to commend the Commission’s focus on exploring third-party caller ID authentication solutions,” said INCOMPAS Executive Director of Public Policy Chris Shipley. “Our competitive voice providers are proactively working to adopt the STIR/SHAKEN framework and meet the Commission’s current requirements. Third-party authentication has proven to be an important market-based solution for providers to achieve this and we believe it is critical to avoid premature regulatory action that could inadvertently limit the progress made in implementing the STIR/SHAKEN framework.”
